A story about Siddhartha "Buddha" Gautama
The great zen teacher Thich Nhat Hanh talks of students who come to him, and I have seen this, and want to take a picture of him..He poses this question..why do you need to take a picture of yourself..shining the mirror back to the buddha nature that is within each person to awaken in this precious human birth..
The lamp of wisdom has passed unbroken from teacher to teacher since the time of the Buddha..to be in contact with teachers in our present time that are a living embodiment of the Buddha is precious also..for they show the way that wisdom is a stream available to all..including you and me..Thich Nhat Hanh says you do not need to travel..but learn the practices of the Buddha..mindful sitting, walking, eating, speaking, interacting with friends, family and the world..taking good care of strong emotions within..to be a peaceful person and a peacemaker..this in our modern world is such a gift to awaken and to enjoy such a person..have you met such a person and felt better just to be near them..
Can you imagine being that person..Buddha is not just a historical figure who lived over 2,500 years ago, but a living lamp of reality in our midst..the living body of the Buddha, and you and I if we are in touch with this reality in this moment will easily meet the Buddha within..and can bring forth this wisdom to shine light on the corners of the world that we touch with our lives..
